Subcision is a targeted procedure for depressed, tethered acne scars, the type that appear as pits or depressions because fibrous bands beneath the skin are anchoring the scar base to deeper structures. A fine needle is inserted beneath the scar to sever these attachments.
Once the tether is released, the depressed area rises toward the skin surface. Subcision also induces a controlled wound-healing response that stimulates collagen production at the treated site, further improving the scar over time.

How It Works
Needle insertion
A fine-gauge needle is inserted through the skin at a shallow angle and advanced to the scar's fibrous base, typically just below the dermis-subcutaneous junction.
Tissue release
The needle is moved in a fan-like motion beneath the scar to mechanically cut and release the fibrous bands tethering the scar base to deeper tissue.
Haematoma formation
The controlled minor bleeding that results beneath the scar acts as a natural tissue filler and initiates a wound-healing response that produces new collagen at the site.
Progressive improvement
Improvement occurs gradually over weeks as collagen remodelling continues. Multiple sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are typically needed for optimal results, and subcision is often combined with RF microneedling or laser for maximum effect.
What to Expect
The Procedure
Sessions take 30 to 60 minutes. Topical numbing cream and local anaesthetic are applied beforehand for maximum comfort. A fine needle is inserted beneath each tethered scar and moved in a controlled motion to release the fibrous bands.
Downtime
Bruising and swelling for 3 to 7 days, most prominent in the first 48 hours. Treated areas will be tender. Most customers can return to work within 1 to 3 days depending on the extent of treatment.
Results & Longevity
Gradual improvement over 4 to 8 weeks as the released tissue rises and collagen fills the space. Multiple sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart are typically needed. Results are long-lasting and cumulative with each round of treatment.
