Light That Works at the Source

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses precisely filtered broad-spectrum light to target specific chromophores in the skin, primarily melanin and haemoglobin. The light energy is absorbed and converted to heat, destroying its target without damaging surrounding tissue.

IPL is a versatile treatment effective across a range of concerns, from acne and pigmentation to facial redness and visible capillaries, making it one of the most adaptable light-based therapies in medical aesthetic practice.

IPL

What It Treats

Active Acne

IPL targets acne-causing bacteria and reduces the inflammation and redness associated with active breakouts.

Sun Spots & Pigmentation

Melanin in pigmented lesions absorbs IPL energy, causing them to darken, surface, and shed naturally over 1-2 weeks.

Facial Redness & Rosacea

Haemoglobin in dilated superficial vessels absorbs IPL energy, causing vessels to collapse and fade.

Post-Inflammatory Redness

Reduce residual redness and discolouration left behind by healed acne lesions.

Uneven Skin Tone

Progressive IPL treatments improve overall skin tone and clarity by targeting diffuse pigmentation and redness together.

How It Works

01

Chromophore targeting

IPL filters are selected to match the absorption spectrum of the target chromophore, melanin for pigmentation, oxyhaemoglobin for vessels, so energy is deposited precisely where it is needed.

02

Photothermal effect

The absorbed light converts to heat within the target structure. Pigmented cells are disrupted and eventually shed; vessel walls are thermally damaged and reabsorbed by the body.

03

Skin preservation

Surrounding skin structures that do not absorb the filtered wavelength are spared, allowing controlled treatment with minimal collateral effect.

04

Progressive improvement

A course of treatments, typically 3 to 5 sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart, produces cumulative improvement as treated lesions resolve and new vessels are addressed.

What to Expect

The Procedure

Sessions take 20 to 40 minutes. Cooling gel is applied to the skin and eye protection is worn throughout. The handpiece is moved across the treatment area delivering pulses of light. Most customers feel a snapping or warm sensation at each pulse.

Downtime

Mild redness for a few hours. Treated pigmented spots will temporarily darken and may appear more pronounced for 7 to 14 days before naturally shedding. There is no structural downtime, and most customers continue with normal activities.

Results & Longevity

Pigmentation fades progressively over 1 to 2 weeks per session as the body clears treated cells. Vascular results are typically visible sooner. A course of 3 to 5 sessions is recommended, with maintenance every 6 to 12 months.
